A sharp jaw–neck angle and a defined jawline are hallmarks of youth and attractiveness. Submentoplasty is a procedure designed for patients who have a heavier neck or an obtuse jaw–neck angle but still maintain good skin quality.

How Submentoplasty Works

  • A small, hidden incision is made just beneath the chin.
  • Excess fat is removed through a combination of liposuction and direct excision.
  • The platysma muscle (the superficial neck muscle) is tightened and repositioned into a supportive sling to create a sharper jaw–neck angle.
  • The incision is then carefully closed.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Submentoplasty is best for individuals with fullness or heaviness in the neck who still have good skin tone.

Patients with more significant skin laxity of the neck or jowls are often better candidates for a lower face and neck lift, which can address both deeper structures and excess skin.
